No matter how large or small your wedding will be, desserts always make the celebration sweet. Knowing how much dessert to serve for a wedding, however, is just as important a consideration as choosing the dress and selecting the bouquets.
Jasmine Hidalgo, executive pastry chef at Frost Artisan Bakery, explains what you need to know when determining how much dessert to order for a wedding.
What Should Couples Consider With Wedding Cake Serving Sizes?
“In terms of size, we follow a traditional cake-cutting chart that most bakeries and catering companies use. More than likely, couples will also need side cakes to serve all of their guests, especially if they’re getting a cutting cake or small two-tiered cake. Scope and scale really depend on their budget.”
What’s a Rule of Thumb to Follow When Ordering Desserts?
“We usually account for 1.5 dessert servings per guest. If you have 200 guests, you should have at least 300 pieces of dessert.”
If You Want Multiple Desserts, How Do You Determine How Much of Each to Serve?
“We normally evenly divide the number of pieces we need by the total number of desserts. For example, if we were to make 300 pieces in total and the couple asked for four different types of desserts, we would make 75 pieces of each dessert the couple ordered.”
